Der Salvation Mountain in der südkalifornischen Wüste

Rahmen

Recently, I presented to you the first pictures of the Salvation Mountain. Today, I would like to give you some more details about this extravagant artwork. The Salvation Mountain is located somewhere in the middle of nowhere in South California. Anyway, it can be reached by car quite well either from San Diego or from Palm Springs. We went for the way from Palm Springs. On the about 80 miles long way you go across Coachella Valley, at the Salton Sea and you pass the Joshua Tree National park. You should definelty bring enough time for one or the other stop over as this is a really beautiful way. Confusing though is Niland, the small town next to the Salvation Mountain. I have never ever seen such a dead and skid row. It is hard to imagine that people really live there. Several kilometers further, whilst constantly wondering whether we are on the right track, the colorful masterpiece by Leonard Knight appears. The artist build the Salvation Mountain out of straw and mud and colored it in rainbow colors. The message “God loves all of us!” cannot be overseen. The word “God” and “Love” can be found hundreds of times on this installation. Until his dead, in February of this year, the artist used to live without any electricity and constant water in a colorful truck, located directly next to his masterpiece. It is not the only colored automotive that can be found next to the mountain. I really liked the Salvation Mountain because it was just totally different to everything else I have ever seen before. If you are in South California, I visit is worthwhile.

P.S. Take aplenty of supply with you, and in particular a looooooooooooooot of water since you won’t get anything far and wide.
