Notting Hill und der Portobello Market

Rahmen

Yesterday I have showed you my outfit already, which we photographed in one of the magnificent streets of Notting Hill; today you can see some more pictures of this beautiful London borough. I have to admit, I did not really have a clue about London before we went on our trip there. Of course, you know the famous sights, the shopping area Oxford-Street, and I have been to the trendy borough of Camden Town with Kenzo before. That’s why I was really happy about all your extensive tips! Already before we went on our short trip, I had the famous Portobello-Market on my list, which was also recommended to me by all London-lovers. Coincidentally, our hotel was just around the corner of Notting Hill and so we strolled around this – not only due to Hugh Grant’s and Julia Roberts’ cult movie – famous borough on Saturday morning. We quickly got, why the celebrities of London are attracted by this borough in the north-west of Hyde Park. I have rarely seen such marvelous buildings at one place, surrounded by majestic trees and palms (in London!). On the broad streets you have the feeling you see more Porsches than VWs, on the neat sidewalks you see fancy ladies strolling around with their dogs. This borough does not only captivate by its glamorous townhouses, though, but also by lots of creativity. Every Saturday there is a big antiques market on Portobello Road, which cuts across the complete borough from South to North. There you can not only find furniture and plenty of this and that, but also fashion, jewelry and fresh food. Unfortunately the market was overcrowded and so we could not take that many pictures. Still, we brought you some snapshots from there. Next to the market stalls there are lots of stores and cute little Cafés and both ends of Portobello Road, so a visit is not only worth on market days but also during the week. I really enjoyed the streets of Portobello Road, in which you can find not only plenty of British designers but also tiny vintage- and jewelry stores. The streets itself are very pretty to look at. Massive stone stairs are leading to the small town houses in the side streets and their doors are painted colorful. The famous blue door from the movie Notting Hill was auctioned by the way, and nowadays the house in 280, Westbourne Park Road is locked with a black door. Apropos, from Thursday on I will be in London again for two days and one thing is for sure: I will pay Notting Hill a visit again!
